For the last 4 years, I have been regularly going to life drawing at the Untitled Gallery. It’s my social hobby. Some people play pickup basketball; I go life drawing with my friends. Recently, we did a group show (organized by the magnificent artist, gallery owner and life drawing host – Inna Rohr).
This whole time I’ve been doing my figure drawing with Procreate on the iPad, which records every action and lets you play it back as a timelapse. For the show, I put every stroke of every drawing in every Untitled session into one long timelapse video. I recorded the dates and edited the footage to add a 3 second freeze frame at the end of every drawing. The video ended up being 2h 44m 23s long. That’s longer than the runtime of Dune!
I submitted it as a video installation, with the idea that you’ll come to the work and see a little bit of my drawing journey, and if you come back, hopefully you’ll see a different part. I named the project “Eye Of The Tiger” to get the song stuck in my head while you look at it. Here’s what it looked like in the show, and some of the drawings that went well.
Artist’s Statement:
Every once in a while I make a drawing so good that I don’t know if I’ll ever be able to make a better one. The only way to find out is to keep drawing.
