I helped introduce Webstudio to the world by developing their brand identity and product design.
Webstudio is a platform that allows designers to create ambitious websites and web apps without extensive coding knowledge. The Webstudio builder is open-source and made with with modularity in mind, encouraging the community to extend it with third party integrations.
During my time at Webstudio, I lead the creation of Webstudio’s brand identity and its execution across their website, product launches and social media touchpoints. When I joined, their brand identity consisted of this quirky W logo with gradients. I reconstructed the logo to work as an SVG and based my design system on its shapes and colors.

Building Webstudio with Webstudio
The process of building the Webstudio site was a way for us to battle test our product. We wanted to know if it was powerful enough to build a SaaS site, while being user friendly enough that a designer could take to it. I was comfortable designing sites on Figma, and I figured, how hard could it be?
I made some templates
In addition to designing the Webstudio website, I made 4 website templates that Webstudio users could customize to fit their needs. There was a portfolio site, a SaaS site, a marketing site and a link-in-bio site.

Webstudio Beta launch
In addition to making the website, I made the launch video (sound design by Artjom Pestov and Paolo Piana). It was the first video on our brand-new YouTube channel. At the time of writing, it has over 45,000 views.
We launched our Beta in April 2023. With our website, launch video and product in a good place, we made a splash in the Product Hunt community. Our audience of designers and open-source enthusiasts loved it—voting us to the #2 product of the day.

Product design work
I worked on some product features as well as our design system. Here’s a case study about the product design work I did during that time.
Closing Thoughts
What I love most about working at startups is feeling like I’m working to change the world for the better. Working on this empowering open-source project gave me that feeling in spades. I hope that Webstudio succeeds in bringing visual development to everyone, and I’m thankful to have been part of that journey. I’ll end this case study with some fun images I made for them:
